And Bingo Was the Name
For kindergartens, they associate the word bingo to that farmer who has so many animals. You know that nursery rhyme being taught by kindergarten teachers to the little kids that goes "There was a farmer had a dog and bingo was his name o, B-I-N-GO, B-I-N-G-O, B-I-N-GO and BINGO was his name oh". Who could ever forget that right? However, there is also a different kind of bingo being taught in school as part of the classroom activities. This is called educational bingo.
Educational bingo can be any subject found in the curriculum and it can be used to any kind of school level. In this variation of bingo, the concept of the game do have a little modification and the cards being used differs. The items found on the bingo cards are changed according to the subject matter.
One of the most popular educational bingo used in the school is the phonics bingo. This variation encourages students to enhance their word recognition and spelling. The bingo cards used in this game contains words where in the students mark them the moment they feel that it corresponds to what the teacher is saying. Like for example in the aspect of word recognition, the teacher would say that they need to find a word on their card that contains the word "pot". In this case, the student shall mark the word "spot".
Another variation of educational bingo is the fraction bingo or the mathematics bingo. This variation is widely used on a higher level of education such as high school and colleges. In this case, the teacher gives out a particular problem where students needs to solve and later mark the answer found on their card. In come cases the teachers will ask the students to mark the numerical equivalent of a word number. Example, the teacher would let the student find the numerical equivalent of one half. The students will then mark the figure ½ found on their cards.
There are a lot of variations that teachers can choose from. They can actually incorporate it to any subject that they are teaching. All they need to do is to change the items on the cards according to their lesson. Educational bingo is not just a fun activity, but it also facilitates learning. Through this, the students can learn the subject matter in a more funky and exciting way. Students will learn to enjoy the subject and will be challenged to do good in the game.
